María Jesús Román
Artista visual. Nació en Santiago, Chile, el 13 de Noviembre de 1978. El año 2003 obtuvo el Título de Licenciada en Arte, en la Universidad de Chile, Santiago; el año 2007 obtuvo la Mención en Pintura; y, entre el año 2006 y 2007 realizó el Magíster en Artes Visuales en la misma Universidad. Durante los últimos catorce años, se ha dedicado a trabajar en el campo de las artes visuales abordando algunos tópicos que refieren a la traducción de códigos de lenguaje y códigos visuales, a través de sistemas de representación mínimos que generalmente y de manera sutil se desbordan por su materialidad. La percepción del peso es otro factor que intenta implicar en sus ejercicios de obra. Considera a ‘lo ligero’ más sugerente que a ‘lo pesado’, sin embargo, son opuestos en constante tensión. En este sentido, sus trabajos pueden ser vistos como delicadas piezas ingrávidas o como pesadas estructuras fijas.

In 2003 she graduated from her Bachelor's Degree in Art at the University of Chile, Santiago; in 2007 she obtained her Mention in Painting; and between 2006 and 2007 she got her Master's Degree in Visual Arts at the same University.
During the last fourteen years, she has dedicated herself to work on the field of visual arts, addressing some topics that refer to the translation of language codes and visual codes, through minimal systems of representation that generally and subtly overflow with their materiality. The perception of weight is another factor she tries to involve in her work exercises. She considers “the lightness' more suggestive than “the heaviness” however, they are opposites in constant tension. On this sense, her work can be seen as delicate weightless pieces or as heavy fixed structures.
